Liner Notes:

Hello, is it me you’re looking for? Such an iconic song from the ’80s. Such a beautiful lyric and melody, written by Mr. Richie himself. Although I’ll never understand how a blind woman could sculpt a face she’s never seen or presumably touched. There’s no clay sculptures in our video, for better or for worse. 😉

A fan recently suggested I cover this song, and I’m so glad he did. The thought intrigued me, so I sat down with my guitar and came up with this acoustic arrangement on the spot. It’s an incredibly fun song to sing. I can’t get enough of it.

Mike Massé – vocals, rhythm guitar
Rock Smallwood – lead guitar
Bryce Bloom – bass

A big thanks to Rock for working out his lead part, incorporating elements of the orchestration, as well as nailing that signature guitar solo.

Bryce was out of town when we filmed the video, but we filmed it in his absence with his blessing.

I have a confession to make: we didn’t actually record this at that studio (Third & James in Denver). We just filmed it there. This is a home recording, like most of my other recent videos. Were you fooled? 😉

The engineer you see is the amazing Matt Legge. I met Matt when I recorded a CD in Nashville at Peter Frampton’s studio. Matt was the engineer who tracked and mixed that CD, “Something.” He has worked with Ringo, Taylor Swift, and tons of other big names. He recently moved to Denver, and I’m so thrilled he’s here. We’ve been lucky enough to recruit him as our main sound guy for the Mike Massé Band. He’s a great guy and a great engineer.

Thanks to Nathan Mitchell for filming. The video looks great! Another one in 4K for you.

Thanks to Wild Dog Stomp pedals out of Australia for providing the awesome stomp. My model is the Bunyip.

My guitar is an Ovation Custom Legend shallow bowl.

I recorded the guitars and vocals with a Townsend Labs Sphere L22 into my UA Apollo.

I use Elixir Phosphor Bronze Nanoweb Light HD strings.

Thanks for reading, and please remember to Like, Subscribe, and Share. It all helps a lot.

Love,
-Mike
